Twas 6am Saturday, Dad and I were up
coffee was brewed and we would drink just one pot.
Sales adds and Christmas lists were carefully looked over
In hopes that our bank account wouldn't soon be over.
Nikkii was sprawled out looking so innocent in bed
while the sound of motors revved up in his head
Dad in his shorts am me in my jammies
prepared for the day we would go Christmas shopping.
We look at the list of Pink cameras and cell phones
With an affordable list and one last cup of coffee
We said a prayer and announced let the day begin
With a stop by the bank we withdrew the amount
that would bring gifts to the Lack/Merriman house.
Our first stop would be wal mart for that little pink camera
We pulled in the parking lot and said a prayer.
"Dear God, please bless us
This Christmas season
and help us remember the true gift of the season...
The love that you show us all through the year
and pass on that love to all who is dear."
As my husband grabs the cart to do his fatherly chore
He looks to me with assurance...
"We can do this hunny just like years before
do you have your cell phone incase I lose you in isle four?"
And then with a purpose I took out the list
lets go to electronics for that special pink gift.
They were all out of Pink cameras and MP3's
But we found a blanket
and decided it would go to the momma to be.
We talked and we pondered where to get the rest
We knew the mall would be the place to go
But oh the parking and people galore
There we were greeted but large angry mobs
with the sound of the bell players singing their songs
Here were the Heeleys and and the pink camera too
And a call from my son ..."Where are you two?"
All and all it was a pleasant shopping trip,
we found almost everything on the wish list.
With one final stop at the hooters place
We could go home with a smile on our face.
Next year will be different we said on the way home
there will be a new baby to have and to hold
I heard my husband sigh with delight
Just wait little baby we will spoil you right.

Awesome Mable. Never knew you were a poet too. Great job. And by the way, can't wait til that "little one" gets here....cause that means I will be there to witness the joy and love in a grannies first hug!
