Believing in Dreams
Do you believe? the voice asked. The tone low, the quality soothing, confident.
She mulled the question over in her mind, head lowered in contemplation, blue-grey eyes shimmering with unseen forces or emotions yet unseen while the shadows around her kept their distance. She stood within a small circle of light, as if the very heavens had opened up and were shining an ethereal light upon her and her alone.
Hair the color of spun honey glowed as if it were afire, features a masque save for the eyes that were kept hidden by loose tendrils of hair that hung about her face. A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth, as she raised her head, eyes searching the shadows but seeing nothing,
There is much to believe in. she replied just as quietly. The question posed opening a door to so much of the imagination that the answer given was worthy.
There was silence for a time, as if the being that was near her was contemplating its own response. Though she couldn't see it, the features of him were one that revealed much. His own blue eyes danced while a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, and within the shadows in which he was surrounded, an arm raised to run strong fingers through short cropped brown hair only to lower at his side.
And when you realize that a wish or is it your dream... will soon be realized, will you believe then? he asked, still low in tone and quality.
Her features softened considerably, eyes scanning the shadows hoping for a glimpse of the features that came from the voice that was so like the one that encompassed her dreams. The smile that graced her lips became that much more mysterious in appearance, the tip of her tongue gliding over her lips.
Images came to mind with that question.
Images of strong hands reaching out to pull her within his embrace, while his fingers stroked through her hair, only to move over her flesh and bring her body to an awareness that only he seemed able to awaken. So much more came to mind. Allowing her to feel every touch given... each kiss placed upon her lips... the warmth that spread through her from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. The yearning, craving and desire that she had.
The need to be held by him. Within him. Close to him while they lay side by side. A stronger need to be able to reach out and just caress the side of his face with her fingertips, to hear him laugh softly in her ear, to talk quietly with him while they sat in a chair with her on his lap and his arms folded around her.
The beginning of time didn't matter, for she knew that time was what they had and that some day... one day... all of this would come to be.
I have always believed, she stated simply.
And still the images came and went. Slow motion photographs within her mind that left her breathless in anticipation and the feeling that what was taking place was more than what it was.
Like a heavy curtain being drawn before a play, the shadows parted only to form more that began to solidify. Eyes were focused on the movement before her, so subtle in motion that she wondered if that too, weren't part of her imagination when she knew it was not.
He was more than mysterious. He was intrigue and fascination. A forbidden fruit when she would hear him speak and words passed between them that would take her places she knew better to go. He was a guide for her. A being that was more real than anything she had ever seen, felt or tasted. He was as real as she was.
And as he stepped forward and into the light with her, she smiled. The strength of his arms as they reached out for her to pull her closer, the sound of his beating heart as she lay her head against his chest. The scent of him consuming her and making her that much more alive. Whispered words in her ears that gave her confidence in who she was and what she could become.
Myst like tendrils of the night were chased away as she turned, feeling his warmth against her. And as she turned, she felt an arm drape over her side and pull her that much closer, blue-grey eyes moving to the window and seeing the first supple light of the new day. She smiled again, and whispered in the silence, Yes... I have always believed....
